September 1, 2021 – Kelley Masters, founder of the Texas cottage food law movement and local foods proponent since 2007, has announced the formation of Homemade Texas, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to supporting home independence and entrepreneurship. Homemade Texas will give homemakers, homesteaders, and entrepreneurs a presence and voice in Texas policy making. The organization will initially focus on expanding the existing cottage food law, and legislation allowing Texans the ability to raise a small number of backyard hens to enhance independence and food security. Educating members about the political process and promoting grassroots civic engagement will be core to the organization’s mission.
