Update: Homemade Texas and FARFA send joint letter to Hardin County

On August 19, 2024, Homemade Texas and the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance (FARFA) joined forces once again to send a letter notifying the Hardin County Health Department of several illegal requirements that had been placed on Hardin County cottage food operators. Read the letter.

A Hardin County official replied on September 4, 2024, notifying us that Hardin County has made the decision to discontinue the practice of requiring temporary permit fees of cottage food producers, the county attorney stating in part, “I think it may be a best practice to not charge these fees going forward, and our Health Inspections Manager can inspect upon a complaint. While I don’t think anything was done illegally, I do think the intent of the law was to not charge permit fees if at all possible. I think going forward that this is the best approach.”

We are here fighting for cottage food producers and gearing up for the 2025 legislative session – your membership makes it possible for us to engage in this level of activism. Consider joining or renewing! https://homemadetexas.org/join
